Dress Code Policy
Policy Statement:
The purpose of this policy is to provide a minimum standard dress code for all visitors to any Birmingham Islamic Society (BIS) facility.
Dress Code
Men
- No shorts above the knees.
- No transparent clothing.
- Shirts must be worn inside the facilities at all times.
- No clothing that displays profanity or human/animal figures or that promotes beliefs or ideas that are inconsistent with Quran and/or Sunnah, in the absolute discretion of BIS.
- Footwear must be removed prior to entering the Musallah (the carpeted prayer area).
Women
- No skirts above the ankles
- No tops exposing arms, cleavage, or navel (e.g., no sleeveless and no crop tops)
- No transparent clothing, including see-through sleeves.
- Footwear must be removed prior to entering the Musallah (the carpeted prayer area).
- No clothing that displays profanity or human/animal figures or that promotes beliefs or ideas that are inconsistent with Quran and/or Sunnah, in the absolute discretion of BIS.
Men-Women Interaction
Please be aware that Islamic Law prohibits touching of the opposite gender, except in the case of one’s spouse and some close relatives. Some Muslims may not adhere to this, and we request that you only extend your hand for a handshake if one is extended to you by the opposite gender.
