Hoover Crescent Expansion Project

“When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariah, a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him”

Hoover Crescent Islamic Center (HCIC) is the largest and the main center operated by the Birmingham Islamic Society (BIS). The first Jummah was offered at HCIC on December 28, 2007. Like many Masajid in USA, the Birmingham Muslim community went through a rough zoning battle. HCIC started with an Islamic Murabaha loan of $1,000,000. With the help of Allah and then the community, we were able to successfully pay off the outstanding loan of about half a million dollars in 2012. We are now ready to embark on the remaining phases. More than 400 Muslims pray at HCIC.

Phases will be done over the next several years and will be limited to the expenditure of approximately $400,000/year. We will first address claiming the land for parking by building retaining walls and fill dirt. Our initial meetings with the City of Hoover and Alabama Power on the buffers and easement are very encouraging. Insha Allah we will be able to reclaim about sixty feet of land on the entire west side of our property. This translates into scores of additional parking spaces.

Our weekend school has a registration of approximately 150 students and more that 100 kids were registered in our summer 2013 camp. More than 200 people make iftar at HCIC in a rented tent. Red Crescent Clinic of Alabama (RCCA) is another project of BIS and currently shares a classroom with our Weekend Islamic School. We serve approximately 60 Muslim and from the members of the community at large every month. After the parking lot project, we will start in phases to add class rooms, a multipurpose hall and an independent clinic.
